Rooms with a view—Dynamic window glazing

Dynamic glazing, often called smart glass, is another big area of development in windows. These advances include coatings on the glass or integrated technologies that can reversibly control glass tint to adjust how much light passes through.

By variably adjusting solar heat gain through the glass, these technologies allow differential control during different climates—using less tint to allow more solar energy to pass through the glass during colder climates, warming the building inside; and using darker tint to reflect more solar radiation when the outside climate is hotter, keeping the building inside cooler.
