Oxide glasses are among the most important classes of materials, playing essential roles in modern technologies such as optical devices, architectural glazing, and photosensitive materials.

Despite their many advantages, most oxide glasses are brittle at room temperature. If we could identify compositions or processing conditions that improve fracture strength and toughness, we may unlock new opportunities for durable glass materials in demanding industrial and technological applications.
